Bell Cottages in Cowes is a roomy former public house lovingly renovated to provide a characterful home-from-home. It makes a perfect bolthole to enjoy the buzz of Cowes, local sailing facilities and all the beaches and beautiful countryside across the Island. It is ideally located at the mouth of the Medina River, between East and West Cowes with stunning Solent from two bedrooms and the living room.
The 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom self catering cottage is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped.
Two double sofas, together with cushions on the window seat, provide ample seating for up to 8 people. The floor is laid with seagrass carpeting with a luxurious Indian rug covering the main living area. A wood-burning stove in the living room keeps the whole cottage cozy and welcoming in the winter. Bookshelves either side of the fireplace are stocked with a variety of novels, architecture, photography and sailing volumes. There is a games compendium as well as a TV/DVD with Freeview.
The open-plan kitchen-diner is fitted with a 4-hob Smeg double oven range cooker, AEG dishwasher, Bosch washing machine and a Bosch tumble drier. It is well-stocked with all the essentials including toaster, kettle, several kitchen knives, a food chopper, corkscrew, baking trays, stoneware bakers, and a new set of good quality saucepans. There’s plenty of preparation space for enthusiastic cooks! The dining table has reclaimed benches from a Welsh chapel either side and seats 8 people. French windows in the large kitchen/diner open onto a private courtyard which is delightful on sunny days throughout the year.
Master Bedroom and en-suite shower room
This high-ceilinged room has wide oak floorboards and a Superking-size Indonesian four-poster bed. A large window looks out onto the Solent and there is a wooden-slatted blind and Indian silk curtains for privacy. The en-suite shower room is tiled in limestone and also has a loo and basin.
Bedroom 2 – twin
Also on the first floor is a double room that overlooks the courtyard garden. Two white-painted wooden beds complement the cream-painted floorboards and pretty, white embroidered curtains.
Opposite the twin bedroom is a spacious bathroom with double-ended bath, two Moroccan copper basins with copper fixtures, a loo and a mirrored wall.
Bedroom 3 – double/twin
Upstairs on the 2nd floor is a large double room with white-painted floorboard, blue Farrow & Ball ‘Skylight’ walls and magnificent Solent views. The twin divan beds can be pushed together if required and there is a luxurious roll-top bath with shower attachment at one end of the room. A separate loo is also on this floor.
Bedroom 4 – single
A small single bedroom next to the 2nd floor double, is ideal as a child’s room and has a single divan bed, Shaker pegs for hanging clothes up and a Velux skylight (with blackout blind).
